Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Chairperson David Schmidt at 4:00 p.m.
Roll Call: As listed above.
Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Beth Johnston, seconded by Bonnie Stelzer to approve the minutes of the April 1, 2004 meeting. All voted aye.
Financial Report: - Ms. Becky O’Connor gave an updated financial report with a total income to date of $27,556. A motion was made by n’Detenga n’Gurumo, seconded by Charlotte Durante to approve the financial report. All voted aye.
Status 501 (c) (3) Designation: - Mr. David Schmidt reported he is still working on this item.
Moshi Committee: -
Safari Dinner and Books Pat Archer reported this event went well. Approximately 140 people attended. Dr. Browne was the guest speaker and Chairperson Schmidt was the master of ceremony.
Saba Saba Mr. Mensah advised on July 7, 2004 at Old School Square (pavilion) the Delray Beach Sister Cities will honor Saba Saba and Dr. Charles Eschenburg. Mr. Mensah is working on this event. Chairperson Schmidt and Pat Archer advised this event should be postponed until year 2005 due to lack of organization. A motion was made by Ngozi Mensah to continue to coordinate this event for year 2004, if Dr. Eschenburg is available to attend this event, seconded by n’Detenga n’Gurumo. The motion passed with six in favor. Chairperson Schmidt will contact Dr. Eschenburg to see if he is available on July 7, 2004 to attend this event.
Miyazu Committee: -
Discussion of Gift for Miyazu 50th Anniversary and Trip Chairperson Schmidt reported a proclamation will be presented to Japan from Delray Beach. $2,500 have been budgeted to purchase a gift for Miyazu and is under budgeted. He would like to give Miyazu the proclamation (proclamation cost was approximately $200.00) and also present Miyazu with an additional gift. A motion was made by Charlotte Durante to approve up to remaining amount of $2,250 for the purchase of an additional gift to be presented to Miyazu, seconded by Lourdes Engroff. All aye.
Golf Tournament Everything went well and the tournament had a great turn out.
Special Committee Reports: -
Young Artist Competition Nancy King reported Amy Denton a tenth grader from Atlantic High School was the competition winner. Also the City of Boynton Beach Sister Cities Committee attended the reception at Old School Square for the Delray Beach Young Artist Competition.
President’s Report Chairperson Schmidt reported the State Meeting in Mt. Dora went very well.
Mr. Schmidt also spoke to the Board on diplomacy. He spoke about an e-mail that was sent to Board members by another Board member. He thought the e-mail was very unprofessional. Mr. Schmidt expressed some concern that the Delray Beach Sister Cities Committee may fall under the Sunshine Law due to City Commission having to ratify the Board. Mr. Schmidt will clarify this. He expressed the Board should be more aware of protocol.
Women in Visual Arts Exhibit Nancy King is working on. The exhibit will be on display at Old School Square starting June 4, 2004.
Tourist Trip to Miyazu This trip have been postponed (Charlotte Durante and Jimmy Mihori is working on).
Membership Brochure Nancy King is working on this project.
