The Sister Cities Program began in Delray Beach in 1977 with the adoption of the city of Miyazu, Japan. Its newest Sister City, Moshi, Tanzania became an official Sister City in 1999. The Moshi subcommittee recently re-elected its Chairperson, Ngozi Mensah. Mr. Mensah, a Delray Beach educator, is busy planning a season of events to raise funds for the Moshi City Library.

As the Chairperson Mr. Mensah will be working with the Moshi Committee to plan the annual Sister Cities Safari Dinner that will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 6:30 p.m. at the Delray Beach Golf Club. The evening will cost $50 in advance and $60 at the door. The event this year will combine exotic foods, music, an African fashion show, silent auction and the sights and sounds of Africa. It promises to be a spectacular evening, with the proceeds once again, going to the Baobab Books to Kilimanjaro Project.

The Moshi Committee has decided that their primary project for 2005-2006 is to aid our Tanzanian Sister City, Moshi with more new books for its library through the Baobab Books to Kilimanjaro Project as well as planning an excursion to visit Moshi next year. A whole range of books, reference materials, children's books and software has been identified by the staff of the Delray Beach Public Library and will be ordered and shipped to Moshi after the Safari Dinner. That evening the public will asked to donate $20 to purchase books and materials that will contain a label with their name and message on it for the Library in Moshi.

For further information on the Delray Beach Sister Cities Program and to receive tickets to the Safari Dinner please call the Moshi Chairman Oz Mensah at 561-289-4418.
